| GENERAL SUBMISSION STANDARDS (APPLIES TO ALL)
Format:
- 8.5 x 11 inch white document pages in portrait mode layout
- Black Times New Roman or Arial 12 point font.
- One inch margins.
- Each page must be numbered with name and work title.
Eligibility: MFA or graduate students currently attending San Jose State University. Alumni and faculty members are also eligible.
What: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Poetry, and Current News & Events.
We only accept submissions via e-mail:
- Accepted File Types: ‘.doc’ (Microsoft Word document). ‘.docx’ is not acceptable. Work must be an attachment. No work pasted within the email message body will be accepted.
- Send digital submission to submissions@orchardvalleyreview.com
- In subject header include: ‘genre name: name’. i.e. “Fiction: Johnny Doe’
- In e-mail body include: name, phone number and email address.
Fiction
- Length: Maximum 2000 words
- Restrictions: No pornographic or hate speech material. No translations of previously published works. No work created by third party, unless it is a clearly labeled collaboration work. Third party’s contact information must also be included.
Non-Fiction
- Length: Maximum 2000 words
- Includes: Memoir, personal essay, interviews, etc.
- Restrictions: No translations of previously published works. No falsified or fabricated events. No pornographic or hate speech material. No work created by third party, unless it is a clearly labeled collaboration work. Third party’s contact information must also be included.
- Note: Any works with people’s names changed to protect their privacy, must clearly indicate so within the work.
Poetry
- Length: Maximum 40 lines
- All forms of poetry welcome.
- Restrictions: No translations of previously published works. No work created by third party, unless it is a clearly labeled collaboration work. Third party’s contact information must also be included.
Current News and Events
- Any personal news of literary or publishing success may be shared with the writing community. Traveled anywhere interesting lately or was just engaged? Let us know. Want to propose to someone through OVR? This is the place to submit it.
- Any news and information about upcoming literary events around the Bay Area are welcome too.
- Restrictions: No falsified or fabricated material will be accepted. No events that promote hate speech, a specific political party or cause, discrimination, or substance abuse. Self-promotion is acceptable. Employee or volunteer recruitment is acceptable on a case-by-case basis.
